When the world is busy debating whether electric vehicles are better than those that run on petrol and diesel, Chakravarthy M from Baiyyappanahalli has been cycling across the southern states of India for the past 10 years on a mission to raise awareness about world peace.
Chakravarthy, who is better known as Chakra Shahara, was born and raised in Mettupalayam, a small town in Tamil Nadu. In 2005, he relocated to Bengaluru and started working as a security guard in Indiranagar. Over the past 10 years, he has been spending his own money to travel and also subsides on the sponsorships that people give him.
When asked about why he started this cycle campaign, Chakravarthy said, “Nowadays, people are fighting for power, money, religion, community and property and so many people are struggling to earn money to even have a meal, but we are spending so much money on war, when we can use those all that money to feed the poor.”
A decade ago, His focus through his cycling campaign was on resolving the tension that had arisen between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu due to the Cauvery water-sharing issue. In 2016 at the 150th day Assist World Records - Climate Change & Clean India painting exhibition, Chakravarthy was honoured for his contribution in promoting world peace, love and civic sense in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa.
Chakravarthy has been doing this by riding his bicycle 'Shahara’ throughout these states while meeting the general public, NGOs, leaders, media & the press since the year 2011. In 2019, he was awarded the 'Global Humanitarian Award' by St. Mother Theresa University, as a token of appreciation for his passion and for his work for creating a more peaceful world.
