The goonda from Indiranagar, Bengaluru's Wall

Updated: Nov 20, 2022

As India gears up to fly to Australia for the T20 World Cup in a few months' time. Rahul Dravid will be hoping that he and his troops can recreate the magic that the Indian team created in the 2007 World T20. As he makes his way from Bengaluru to the land down-under, let's take a look at some of the places in his home city that shaped his life.

1. St. Joseph's Boys High School -

A guiding force during his formative years, SJBHS undoubtedly groomed Rahul Dravid into the excellent sportsperson and role model that he became, later in his life. Did you know that he was also a very successful hockey player in school?

3. Chinnaswamy Stadium -

You cannot talk about cricket in the city without mentioning the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Did you know that the Karnataka State Cricket Association erected an actual wall to commemorate Dravid's feats on the cricket pitch?

4. Padukone - Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence:

The PDCSE is one of the city's newest sporting landmarks and was named after the two legends from the city. The centre is home to some of the best facilities for badminton, swimming, cricket and football.

5. Indiranagar -

An area that shaped the early part of his life, some of you may have even noticed a name plate with his surname outside his Indiranagar house. But in case you haven't discovered that, here is a video of Indiranagar ka goonda.

6. National Cricket Academy -

The National Cricket Academy is one of India's premier centres for training in the sport. Dravid spent many years practising at these facilities and in a case of life coming full circle, he was the head of the NCA and spent time grooming some of India's most talented youngsters.

7. The smaller grounds around the city:

When Dravid was a teenager, he played numerous matches for his club, Bangalore United Cricket Club. After he had retired from international cricket, he turned out for BUCC at the HAL grounds to save them from the brink of elimination.

Bonus:

The Wall has also shown his humility during events that have happened across the city. Here's one example from last year.

And another one from 2017. In many ways, Dravid shapes the way the city lives and behaves.
